Hey there friend! For the first interview, I’m so excited to kick things off by introducing you to our special guest, Caitlin Townsend.
Caitlin Townsend is a Functional Nutritional Therapist and Fertility Coach who helps women struggling to conceive get pregnant naturally. She’s on a mission to create vibrant mamas and healthy babies.
Her own struggles with unexplained infertility led her to go back to school and find the answers she so desperately needed to heal her body. Caitlin, co-founded The Nest Fertility with her business partner, Drea Cloak. The Nest is a mentor program to help women live their best lives now while trying to conceive. She’s also a trained Chef and has hosted many fertility cooking classes both virtually and at her farmhouse.
We talked about so many different things from her own personal journey to the importance of living your best life now. I really enjoyed this conversation and know you will too! Here’s a recap of my chat with Caitlin.
Caitlin’s Personal Fertility Journey
She shares her personal journey of struggling with fertility, starting with how she and her husband casually started trying but never got pregnant. Her doctors told her she was healthy and everything was fine, but that IVF was the next step.
Being more naturally minded, this didn’t feel right to her at the time, so she set off to figure things out on her own. This included going back to school for nutrition and this is also when she found purpose and fulfillment in helping others on their fertility journey as well.
She learned a ton about her cycle and her own body along the way, which helped to really prepare her mind and body. After trying everything she could over the course of 7 years, she ended up doing IVF and…well you’ll just have to listen in to hear the rest!
How to Cope and the Importance of Community
There are so many emotions during the fertility journey and Caitlin shares the ups and downs that she experienced along the way. When she realized that she didn’t want to continue feeling like this, she started to process her feelings so that she could begin to heal.
Part of the healing process is finding your own support network. That’s why Caitlin co-founded The Nest, a one stop shop filled with resources and a community to provide support for women on the fertility journey. Sometimes it helps to just be around people who get it and who know what you’re going through. They aim to make fertility resources and support accessible and affordable for all women.
Food as Nourishment and Pleasure
Caitlin went to The Culinary Institute to train as a chef and then later went back to school again to become a Functional Nutritionist. Her passion for food and nutrition is evident as she uses food as a creative outlet and teaches others to explore a variety of foods and eat seasonally.
She helps her clients incorporate nourishing foods into their daily routines through simple, yet delicious recipes and cooking classes for those that need more support. Caitlin believes you can create nourishing beautiful meals in very little time, which can be so pleasurable. We also discussed the importance of eating breakfast and aiming to have a balance of protein, fat, and fiber at every meal.
How She Supports Her Clients
Not only does Caitlin offer nutrition education, but she supports her clients in living their best life right now, not just when they get pregnant. During her path to motherhood, she realized that her life was so much more than her fertility journey, and it’s the same for you too. Caitlin recommends tapping into the things that bring you joy, whether that’s hobbies you used to do or different passions you have. This not only makes the journey so much easier, but it’ll help improve your fertility and make life much more enjoyable along the way.
